I’ve been a little quiet lately, I know – part of the reason is a lot of hours put into sewing for the school show. Show’s over now folks and it was a big success. Sell outs every night!
One of the nice things that came out of it was I made friends with a bunch of great sewing mums and I found a lot more families with 18″ dolls. My eldest daughter would come along too and help out and we found it was great Mother daughter bonding time. We had a ball meeting up every week and sewing for a couple of hours in the evening at the local community center and it’s inspired us to keep it up.
Sarah, who helps run the local craft market, organized and hosted our first effort. We’re on school holidays so what better way to entertain and educate our kids than an afternoon of sewing for our dolls. She wisely picked the super easy Heritage Doll Fashions drawstring dress pattern as a good one for the girls to start with. My eldest daughter and I started on the Liberty Jane Jeans but most of my attention went to my 7 year old who was very determined to do her own sewing.
All our budding seamstresses did a great job as I’m sure you’ll agree from the photo.
I’m really looking forward to more of these events. It’s a great way to learn from each other as well as bond with your kids.
Thanks Sarah – we all had a great time.
